Lois K. Long, 78, Topeka, died Monday, December 6, 2010.
She was born October 25, 1932 in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Wayne Dewey and Nettie Pearl (Briggs) Kerr. She was a graduate of Washington High School, Kansas City, KS.
She was employed by Gage Center Bowl, Security Benefit Life Insurance and Mohajir and Associates. Her Topeka volunteer work included Meals on Wheels, TARC, Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging, and she served on the Election Board. Most recently, she volunteered as a Teacher's Aide for Maude Bishop Elementary School.
Lois married (Samuel) Lowell Long on September 14, 1952 in Kansas City, KS. He survives of the home in Topeka. Other survivors include three children: Jenice (David) Greb of Merriam, KS, Keith (Bonnie) Long of Beaumont, KS and Craig (Marty) Long of Mesa, AZ; two grandchildren: Hannah and Laura Greb; and a brother, Larry Kerr of Iowa. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Greb in 1994 and a brother, Keith Kerr who died while serving his country in France.
A Rosary will be recited 6:15 p.m., Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS.
The funeral will be 11 a.m., Friday, December 10, 2010 Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Mrs. Long will lie in state after 5 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be a made to the Grace Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St., Suite 100, Topeka, KS 66614.
