Loretta M. Gleissner, 87, Topeka, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014.

She was born May 18, 1927, in New Baden, Illinois, the daughter of Anton and Elizabeth (Mathews) Griesbaum.

Loretta met Frederick F. Gleissner while working in St. Louis and on October 1, 1949 they were married in Great Bend, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her son, Carl in 1987, sisters, Josephine and Margaret and brothers, Anthony and Barnard.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Loretta and Frederick hosted many young people from Up With People, where they traveled singing and performing. She was strong in her faith and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and past member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.

Loretta was a wonderful cook, filling their home with the wonderful aromas of cookies, homemade bread, vegetables, fruits and jellies. She was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, homemaker and friend. She touched many lives.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Gleissner will lie in state on Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., with a parish rosary being prayed at 4:00 p.m.
