Loretta Massey

October 24, 1944 — May 16, 2022

Heaven gained the most amazing, beautiful, gracious, loving, and caring Angel on May 16, 2022.

Loretta was born on October 24, 1944 to Howard A. and Margaret C. Marcell at Columbus
Hospital in Great Falls, Montana. She was the eldest of three siblings, Jerry, Linda, and Dale.

She grew up in Western Kansas and graduated from 8th grade in Bogue, Kansas and later attended her first 2 years of high school in Palco, Kansas. She later transferred to Topeka, Kansas and graduated from Highland Park High School in May 1962. The marching band and clarinet were Loretta's passion.

Her life changed forever when she met the love of her life, Don Massey. She would brag about how she hit the jackpot and took him off the market. They married October 17, 1964 at Grace Cathedral Church in Topeka, Kansas. She was blessed with three children, Amy, Angie, and Laif, who loved her more than life itself.

The medical community along with countless patient lives were changed forever when Loretta decided to go to nursing school. She graduated from Stormont Vail School of Nursing with her nursing diploma on June 23, 1967. She later graduated from Baker University on December 17, 1993 Magna Cum Laude with her BSN. She spent 35 years at Stormont Vail with several positions including Certified Critical Care Nurse, Nurse Coordinator for the Regional Cardiac Monitoring Program, Nurse Clinician for the Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgeons, Director of Critical Care, Respiratory and Pulmonary, and Emergency Department. She completed her career at Stormont Vail as Director of Performance Improvement.

Loretta always brought homemade banana ice cream to any family social. She was known for her love of God, and her heavy designer purses that her children were delighted to watch over at the grocery store. Her infamous line was, "Where is my purse?"

Loretta is survived by her husband Don, her children, Amy (Jamie) Kee, Angie (Curt) Brockmann, and Laif (Karyl) Massey, and her mother-in-law, Lenice Massey. Her seven grandchildren, Ryan (Madison) Sayler, Dylan Pryor, Samuel Sayler, Meagan Sayler, Jordan (Noah) Andruss, Abby (Caleb) Poage, and Ellie Kee. Two great grandsons, Sawyer Hunt and Tiberius Andruss. Her siblings, Linda (Ron) Croslin and Dale (Judy) Marcell.

Honoring Loretta's request, cremation is planned. A visitation will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Dove Cremations and Funerals – Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS 66610.
