Lorna Lee Luft

September 16, 1938 — March 16, 2014

Lorna Lee Luft, Warrensburg, MO, formerly of Topeka, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 16, 2014. A sweet, compassionate soul, she spent her adult years as mom, wife, volunteer and political advocate. Before marrying and having children she was a librarian for Salina School District, Salina, KS and Jardine Junior High School, Topeka. Among many volunteer pursuits, she volunteered for more than 25 years at Old Prairie Town, f/k/a Ward-Meade Park, and as a literacy tutor, both in Topeka.

She was born September 16, 1938 in Arco, ID to Charles Perry and Mary (Badger) Perry, and grew up in Waverly, KS. She married John Luft in 1963. He preceded her in death in 2011. Her passions were being with her immediate and extended family, tracing her familial roots, researching Topeka history, talking about social justice and political issues, being with her church family at Trinity Presbyterian in Topeka, listening to music and knowing God.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, one sister and two brothers. Survivors are daughters Joanna (Luft) Hart and her husband John of Portland, OR; Penny (Luft) Greeve Biester and her husband Randy of Knob Noster, MO; grandsons Rusty Greeve Biester and his wife Jessica and Riley Greeve Biester; one great grandson Micah, and six brothers and sisters.
