Louise Jean Riedmaier Henstock, 72, of Topeka, KS, passed away Nov. 6, 2011 in Topeka. She was born Aug. 26, 1939 in Butler, PA, the daughter of Edward and Eleanor (Seyler) Riedmaier. She graduated from Peabody High School (Pittsburgh, PA) in 1957. She earned a B.A. from Grove City College (Grove City, PA) with honors in French and German. She also had a minor in Spanish and completed a course in Scientific Russian. She was a member of the Gamma Sigma Phi sorority and was in the Chancel and Touring choirs. Louise spent a summer abroad in the Experiment in International Living, staying with a family in Swansea, Wales, then touring Great Britain and Paris, France.
Louise married Rev. Thomas R. Henstock Aug. 19, 1961 in Pittsburgh, PA. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. For 20 years, Louise taught Spanish in schools in Butler, PA, Centreville, MI, and Des Moines, IA, Sylvan Grove, Lucas, and Effingham, KS. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and the P.E.O. sisterhood, chapter GJ. Louise was a member of the Topeka Kennel Club, showing her Samoyeds. She sang in choirs for 50 years, enjoyed travel, piano, reading, gardening, animals, and handiwork. She was proud of her book, "Kansas Post Rock Country" which she published.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas R. Henstock, brother, John E. Riedmaier, Brookfield, WI, nephews, Edward J. Riedmaier, Woodridge, IL and Andrew S. Riedmaier, New Berlin, WI; grand-nephews, John, Peter, and William; grand-niece, Rose Riedmaier.
A memorial service will be held for Louise at 12:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 14, at Trinity Presbyterian Church. She will be inurned at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church.
