Louise Shepard, 90, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010.
Louise was born February 7, 1920, in Springfield, Missouri, daughter of John and Gertrude (Root) Cooksey. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1939. Louise was united in marriage to Deane Shepard on September 19, 1942, in Topeka. She worked as a Switchboard Operator at Southwestern Bell, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and retired from Security Benefit Life. Louise was a member of First Assembly of God. She belonged to many social organizations including the Order of Eastern Star, Ladies Auxiliary of the Topeka Santa Fe Band and Arab Shrine Band. In addition, Louise and her husband were State Directors of the Good Sam Club and she was a past president of the PBX Club of Topeka.
Louise is survived by her two children, Judy Davis and husband, Darold, Kansas City, MO; and Deane D. Shepard II, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Carolyn Cockey and husband, Rev. Joseph, Sarasota, FL; Deborah Davis, Plattsburg, MO; and Darold Davis II and wife, Sheila, Kansas City, MO; great-grandchildren, Zachary Davis and Julia Davis, Kansas City, MO; and Joshua, Alex, and Christopher Cockey, Sarasota, FL; sisters, Leona Beeves, San Diego, CA; Fran Orsborn, Albany, OR; and Betty Williams, Houston, TX; and sister-in-law, Etta Schafer, Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Helen Scott, Edith Roepke, and Hazel Truax, and brothers, Leroy, Walter, Jim and Marion Cooksey.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka. Interment will follow at Carbondale Cemetery, Carbondale. Louise will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. today; where the family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. today.
