Lt. Col. Donald G. Trulove departed his earthly life May 17, 2012. He was in the 84th year of life.

Lt. Col. Was born in Topeka the son of R.W. and Georgia F. (Gurtler) Trulove. Growing up in Topeka he attended public schools and graduated from Topeka High School. Then he was employed by the Santa Fe Rail Road as a telegraph lineman until being accepted into the US Air Force Aviation Cadet program. Upon completing Aviation Cadets he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and received his Pilot Rating. He flew throughout the world and was involved in the Cold War, Berlin Airlift, Korean War, Cuban Crisis, and Vietnam War. He retired as a Lt. Col. with a Command Pilot rating.

He then was employed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas. He retired from BCBS after twenty years of service. Lt. Col. Trulove was also involved as: advisor to Aviation Explorer Post 8 (BSA) and he received the Distinguished Aviation Leadership Award from Post 8 in 2003; past president local chapter AMS; life member and past President Kaw Valley chapter TROA/MOAA; life member VFW; life member of the American Legion.

Lt. Col. Trulove was married to Sarah Chappell June 2, 1956; they later divorced. He married Sharon (McNeill) Wickizer May 22, 1982. Survivors include Sharon (wife); sister Mary Heacock and husband Don Heacock of Topeka KS, Children: Ann Trulove and husband Doug Hinton of Burbank CA; Paul and wife Lona Trulove of Annapolis Md., Stepchildren: Laura Dunaway and husband Tim Dunaway of Olathe KS; Ward Wickizer of Ellis Kansas. Grandchildren: Kate Trulove Ellis and husband Tom Ellis, of Stevensville MD., Maggie Mayberry and husband Justin Mayberry of Ownings Mills, KS, Matt Trulove of Annapolis, Md. Step grandchildren: Shawn Dunaway of Olathe KS, Shannon Dunaway of Olathe, KS, Cody Lockett, Wray Wickizer, and Ben Wickizer all of Topeka, KS.; Great grandchildren Emmett and Samuel Ellis of Stevensville MD, and Jackson Mayberry of Owings Mill, KS. ; Nieces and Nephews: Debbie Heacock of Independence, KS; Anita Boden and her husband Rick Boden of Valley Springs, CA.; Donald Heacock of Reno, NV; Andy Brewster and husband Pat Brewster of Silverlake, KS.; Rod Root and wife Vicki Root of Topeka, KS.

Lt. Col. Trulove was preceded in death by his parents R.W. and Georgia Trulove, sister Florence and Harold Root, two brothers Bill and Bob Trulove.

A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012 at First Baptist Church. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. A visitation will be Sunday, May 20 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd.
