Luther H Dobbs, 77, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at a Topeka hospital after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Luther was born May 14, 1940 in New York, New York, son of Luther H Dobbs II and Claire Dobbs. He was a 1958 graduate of Yonkers High School and attended Valparaiso University and was graduated from Akron University. In 1966, Luther began his career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and worked as a Quality Assurance Engineer. His job took him to Akron, Ohio, St Marys, Ohio, and Topeka, Kansas. He had 36 years of service before retiring in 2003. In his retirement, he enjoyed working at Safari Golf and playing Rummikub online with friends worldwide. Luther served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967 doing signals intelligence for the Army Security Agency.
Luther met the love of his life, Allison "Kay" Giffin, when introduced by his sister, Carrie Dobbs. They were married on August 22, 1964 in New Castle, PA. Together, they raised three children, Kelly, Kevin, and Heather and eventually made Topeka their home in 1977.
Besides spending time with family, Luther enjoyed woodworking, building furniture for family, friends, and the church, and enjoyed golfing with Kay throughout their retirement. He belonged to the Goodyear Golf League and Goodyear Retirees Club.
Grateful to have shared his life are his beloved wife and caregiver, Kay; sons, Kelly Dobbs and Kevin Dobbs (Rachel Dobbs); daughter, Heather Imhoff (Corey Imhoff); sister, Carrie Dobbs; grandchildren, Willow Garcia, Finn Dobbs, Lucas Boice Dobbs, Kade Imhoff, Perseus Dobbs, Dane Imhoff, Kaleb Boice Dobbs, and Jet Dobbs. Luther was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Lloyd Dobbs.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 3, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2021 SW 29th St, Topeka, KS. The family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. until the service begins. A reception will immediately follow in the fellowship hall.
