Luther Everett Fluke, 84, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018.
He was born September 17, 1933, in Junction City, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Leona (Crosby) Fluke. He was a graduate of St. Xavier Catholic School. He served in the U.S Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars. After being honorably discharged he enlisted in the 714th Unit of the Kansas National Guard, retiring after 36 years of service.
Luther was employed by the Fleming Foods in Topeka until retiring in 1995.
Mr. Fluke was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Topeka, and St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church, Overland Park, KS.
Luther married the love of his life, Mersina L. Periori on January 20, 1960 in Athens, Greece. She preceded him in death on September 23, 2016. Survivors include their children, Robert "Pete" Fluke, Topeka, Maria (Jason) Cook, Topeka, Luther "Paul" Fluke, San Antonio, TX and George Fluke, Silver Lake, KS; nine grandchildren, Travis, Kali, Tristen, Kennedy, Tanner, Gracyn, Liam, Leia, Robert; four great-grandchildren Tyler, Kaylee, Addien and Brandon; a sister, Zoah Crumpton, Topeka; two brothers, Garry (Margaret) Fluke and Tim Fluke, both of Topeka; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Peggy LaSage; and two brothers, Danny and Jack Fluke.
Luther enjoyed gardening and building things. He had the mind of an engineer and the hands of an artist.
A funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Funeral Chapel & Reception Center, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Luther will lie in state after 3 p.m., Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka, where a rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8 p.m.
