Lyle L. "Mel" Mehl, 69, of Topeka, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born July 23, 1942 in Abilene, KS, the son of Lawrence and Viola (Lauer) Mehl.
Mel attended Chapman High School, and served in the US Navy. He retired from ONEOK in 2005. On March 5, 1999, Mel married Roxanne Roeser in Daytona Beach, FL. She survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Denise Woolston (Craig), Michelle Johnson, both of Lancaster, CA; two sisters, Nadine Martinitz (Dale) of Salina, KS and Betty Chalker (Harold) of Delhart, TX; three grandchildren, Kyle and Devon Woolston, Hannah Renee Lovrich; and "Dudley" the cat. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mel was a member of American Legion Post 400, and he enjoyed riding his Harley with his buddies and on his morning commute to the 20's Club.
At Mel's request, there will be no service. Rather, a celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 11th at the 20's Club in Brookwood Shopping Center, Topeka, KS.
