Lynda Kay Perry Powell, 51, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on January 30, 1958 in Lawrence, the daughter of Willard and Barbara Winters Perry. When she was 10 years old, she and her family moved to Topeka. She attended Centennial Grade School in Lawrence and finished grade school in Tecumseh at Tecumseh South Grade School. She attended Shawnee Heights Junior High School and graduated from Shawnee Heights High School. She attended Emporia State University and graduated from KU with a BS Degree, a Master's Degree and a Doctorate Degree in Behavioral Psychology. She finished her internship in Kansas City. Lynda received numerous scholarships throughout her school years. She was interested in forensics and acting. She enjoyed family activities with her husband and boys. Lynda was a member of the First Christian Church where her and her husband enjoyed working with the youth. She took the youth group to Kentucky to work on homes for Habitat For Humanity. Lynda married James R. Powell on June 10, 1978 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Zachary and Tyler (Kristen) of Topeka, her mother, Barbara Perry of Topeka, two brothers, Michael Perry of Topeka and Mark Perry of Wichita. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Lynda will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
