Malinda "Rose" Mills, 91, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at a Topeka retirement center. She was born on March 18, 1916 in Haven, the daughter of Robert J. and Almeda M. VanSickle Hefling. She graduated from Haven High School in 1934. She had resided in Clovis, NM, before moving to Topeka in 1971. She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. Rose married Harry Vern, the love of her life on July 14, 1936 in Haven. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth Mills of Hemet, CA, John Mills of Hatfield, PA, three daughters, Vernis Lewis of Gig Harbor, WA, Betty Gazaway of San Diego, CA, Kirtsy Blevins of Topeka, nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Clifford Eugene Mills and ten brothers and sisters. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Highland Park United Methodist Church. Graveside committal services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Burrton City Cemetery, Burrton, KS. Rose will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 S.E.
