Marcia Alden Tomlinson Works passed away on August 8, 2014. She was 85. Marcia was born on July 14, 1929, the daughter of William Alfred and Mary Weightman Tomlinson.
Marcia married C. Bruce Works on June 6, 1953. They have 3 children. The oldest, Elizabeth Alden Works married Roger W. Currier and they have a son, James William Currier. The oldest son is Matthew Bruce Works who has a son, Connor Works. The youngest son, Mark William Works has two children, Grace Alden Works and Jonathan Bruce Works. Marcia also has a brother, Matthew Tomlinson who lives in New Jersey.
Marcia lived most of her life in Topeka, Kansas. She attended Randolph Elementary, Crane Middle School and Topeka High School. Marcia graduated from Washburn University and taught kindergarten classes at Lafayette Elementary in Topeka. Following her marriage to Bruce, the family moved to California for a few years while Bruce was in the Air Force. They later returned to Topeka to stay and raise a family.
Marcia was an active member of the Alpha Phi Society, Potwin Presbyterian Church, AAUW, DAR and the Needle Work Guild. Marcia loved to cross-stitch and sew. She was also employed by H&R Block for over 30 years.
Together with the family, Marcia and Bruce loved to go boating. Bruce was even able to get Marcia to learn to water ski. They also enjoyed holding yearly 4th of July parties. Marcia enjoyed so many things, especially spending time with her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, August 16th at Potwin Presbyterian Church, 400 SW Washburn Ave. in Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Potwin Presbyterian Church.
