Marcia Ann Smith

Marcia Ann Smith, 54, of Topeka, Kansas, died on October 16th at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born in Horton, Kansas on June 8, 1957, the eldest daughter of Mable Marie Stirton Jones and Hugh W. Jones, Jr.

She was a 1975 graduate of Seaman High School, Topeka, and the Kansas Area Votechnical School of practical nursing and Pharmaceutical nursing, graduating in 1976. She also specialized in IV therapy. She spent most of her nursing career in labor and delivery and in childbirth education. In addition to nursing at St. Francis, Stormont Vail and Horton Hospitals she worked for several OBGYN offices. Marcia loved the Lord. She was also a graduate in the 7-year course of Bible Study Fellowship International (2000), assisting as class administrator. When in Topeka during the 1990s, she and husband Ron were members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Topeka, where she was Sunday school coordinator and substitute parish nurse. She moved to Larned, Kansas, in 2005 where her husband, Ronald D. Smith, is a partner in the law firm of Smith, Burnett & Larson LLC. While in Larned, she was a certified parateaching professional with the Larned school district.

Marcia married Ronald Smith on July 28, 1990. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Amber Marie Billings Carlson and her husband, Kristopher, of Alexandria, MN; Sandra Jean Billings Tuffley and her husband, Donnie, of Topeka; and a son, Chad Stevan Billings and his wife, Billie, of Topeka. She had two stepdaughters, Jamie Lynn Smith Lira and her husband Nathaniel, of Topeka; and Kelli Christine Smith, of Topeka. Marcia is survived by nine grandchildren: Madalyn, Ann, Reice, Aidan, Landon, Davis, Evelyn, Amelia & Prescott. Also surviving are Marcia's brother, Steven H. Jones of Scottsdale, Arizona, and a sister, Marlene Jones Hermann, of Topeka. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her brother, Stanley R. Jones. Grandparents Bena and William Stirton and Nellie and Hugh Jones Sr.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, Kansas. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.
