Margaret A. Shields, 74, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015. She was born May 24, 1941, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Ralph and Margaret (Puhl) Appelhanz. Margaret was raised in Topeka and lived her entire life here. She was employed by and retired from Luce Press Clippings.
Margaret was a member of St Matthew's Catholic Church. She loved her family very much, and her favorite hobby was being a grandma.
Margaret married George Shields on July 31, 1981 in Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on August 19, 2013. Survivors include her sons, Donny Barba and his wife, Mary; John Barba and his wife Darlene; grandchildren, Josh, Jackie, Sadie, Jason, Jeff, Michelle and her husband, Dan; great-grandchildren, Addy, Tyson, Evelyn, Brenton and Conner and siblings, Ralph, Patricia, Richard, Mary Ann, Ruth and Paulette. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George and sisters, Rosella and Josephine.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Monday, December 7th at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Ave. in Topeka. Cremation will follow the visitation. A graveside inurnment service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 8th at Penwell Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th Ave. in Topeka.
