Margaret H. Cole, 91, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at home. She was born on November 6, 1931 in Jackson County, Missouri. Margaret was raised in Leavenworth by her grandmother, Alice Leavitt-Hinkley.
Following a short employment at Fleming Food Corporations, she was employed by Topeka Public Schools, primarily at Belvoir Elementary School, as a paraprofessional for 28 years. After her retirement in 1996, she continued her dedication to children by volunteering at Scott Magnet School. Former students from Belvoir frequently stopped by for visits until her death.
Margaret married Leonard E. Cole on November 29, 1947 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on August 6, 2005. Margaret was also preceded in death by two sons, Leonard C. Cole on November 14, 1972, B. John Cole on August 16, 1975, and one sister, Betty Leedy in 2016.
Margaret is survived by a son, Dennis (Barbara) Cole, a daughter, Joyce (Patrick) Bush, four grandchildren, Deneen (Derek) Schoenfeldt, John Cole, Ryan Bush, and Carolyn (Jason) Covington, seven great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Marlene (Ted) Brandenburgh.
Margaret will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 pm on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. A private graveside service will take place in West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
