Margaret Ellen Hedges

Margaret Ellen Hedges (née Taylor) passed away on January 31, 2023.
She was born December 28, 1931 in Arma, Kansas, the daughter of Ellen (Luke) Taylor and Ted Rollin Taylor.
She graduated from Girard High School in 1949 and attended Pittsburg State University, St. Mary's of the Plains, and Washburn University, where she completed a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education.
Margaret married Edward Emmett Hedges on December 6, 1955. He preceded her in death on August 29, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in law, Patricia.
She taught elementary school in Hutchinson, Laken, and Syracuse, where she also taught Special Education. Later, in Fort Scott and Burton, she formed her own preschool called 'Wags and Wiggles'. She also served as principal of Episcopal School in Weslaco, Texas, for three years. Margaret retired in 1990.
Survivors include her four children: Jon Hedges of Girard, KS, Dawn Lehman (David) of Mexico, MO, Merri Archibald (Danny) of Lawrence, KS, and Marcia Hedges Smith (Tom) of Topeka, KS; six grandchildren, Ted, Michael, Ellen, Anna, Eduardo, and Braulio; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Margaret was devoted to her family and her church. She loved to travel, camp, and play the piano, and had an insatiable sweet tooth. Helping others was also important to her. She volunteered for many causes over the years, including Hurricane Katrina cleanup in New Orleans and the MS Society Walk.
A private family gathering will be held at Dove Cremations and Funerals, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66610.
A graveside service will be held later in the Spring at Neodesha Cemetery in Neodesha, KS.
