Margaret Honigs

Margaret Honigs, 88, of Topeka, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

Margaret was the daughter of Walter and Beulah (Phillips) Kloss. She was born December 15, 1933 in Grand Marsh, WI. She attended grade school in the Wisconsin Dells, WI and graduated from high school at Manorville, MN in 1952. She attended Winona State Teachers College in Winona, MN and graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education with Honors.

Margaret married Earl Honigs on August 11, 1956 and began teaching in Lafayette, IN. She later taught in Fort Wayne, IN and South Bend, IN. The family moved to Topeka, KS in 1965. Margaret was active in her church teaching Sunday School for many years at Faith Lutheran Church in Topeka. She was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League for over 50 years.

Margaret received a Master's Degree from Kansas State University in 1975 and began her Special Education teaching career in the Topeka 501 school system. She loved the challenge of helping children with learning disabilities. One of her greatest joys was teaching children how to read.

Margaret had a high regard for education because it changed her life. She loved reading, traveling, growing flowers and playing bridge.

Earl and Margaret celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 11, 2006, with their four children, family and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Merlyn and Ernest Kloss.

Survivors include two sons, David Honigs and wife Connie of MI and Paul Honigs of CA; two daughters, Diane Winter and husband Jeff of CO and Dawn Conwell and husband Kent of KS; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and her sister, Lauraine Yennie of MN.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2022 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3625 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66614. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or Topeka Rescue Mission, PO Box 8350. Topeka, KS 66608-0350.
