Margaret Horton

Margaret Ursula Alexander (Todd) Horton 14 July 1945 - 31 May 2004

Margaret, 78, died Monday, 31st May at Midland Hospice House. She was raised in Nottingham, England by her adoptive parents, Frank and Emmie Liddle Todd, who preceded her. In Nottingham, she was awarded the English Channel Competition medal and after earning her degree in Pharmacy at Nottingham University, worked at Boots the Chemist in Nottingham.

She was married 28 September 1944 at St Peter's in Nottingham to Ernest (Bud) S. Horton, WWII veteran, who survives her. She came to Topeka with their first son, Robert A. Horton, to join her husband on 26 March, 1947.

Mrs. Horton ran a nursey at her home in Pauline during the fifties. In the seventies, she taught crafts, knitting and crochet at Montgomery Ward department store in downtown Topeka. She then started her own craft business when she opened the Craft & Curiosity Shoppe in the Little Red School House in Pauline. SHe later moved the business to her home where she taught oil painting. She was an active member of the Topeka Club of the International Association of Printing House Craftsmen Auxiliary, the Artists Associated of Topeka, and the British Wives Club, all of which she served one or terms as President and other offices. She was also an active member of the Pauline PTA and a leader in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Mrs. Horton is preceded by her parents and her daugher, Jill Colin. She is survived by her husband and three children and their spouses: son Robert Alexander and spouse Nancy Paulette Horton, Topeka; son Steven Roger and spouse Michele Clarice Horton, Topeka; and daughter, Gillian Margaret Elizabeth Horton, Heronsgate, England. Also surviving her are five grandchildren: granddaughter Wende Caroline Horton; granddaugher Emily Dawn and spouse Avery Moore, Baltimore, Maryland; granddaughters Robyn Lura Horton, Megan Elise Horton and Allison Michele Elizabeth Horton, all of Topeka; also five great grandchildren: Samual Charles and Miles Alexander Moore, Kristopher Tyriq Horton-Wallace, Caleb Marcus and Tobias Steven Patrick Horton, all of Topeka.

Mrs. Horton was cremated. Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM Friday, 4 June at Grace Cathedral. Inurnment will be in Nottingham at her parents' graves. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association at PO Box 1653 Topeka, KS 66601-1653. Online condolences may be given to the family at www.funeralchoice.com.
