Margaret "Toots" Kearney, 88, passed away January 15, 2006 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born October 5, 1917 in Garnett, the daughter of Jim and Bertha Kibby. Margaret and her parents moved to Topeka when she was at an early age. She attended schools in the Topeka area. Margaret married Everett L. Kearney in 1936 at Oskaloosa. He preceded her in death in 1983. Margaret was a homemaker and a member of Santa-Fe Old Timers. She lived her later years at Presbyterian Manor. During her life she enjoyed reading, crocheting, her family, and friends.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Sherry A. Van Donge, Topeka; three grandchildren, Misty Krull and her husband Roger, Wamego, Rick Van Donge and his wife Laura, Topeka, and Shan Kearney, and his wife Kim also of Topeka; two great- granddaughters, Ashley and Taylor; two great step-grandchildren, Dustin and Jessica; and by several nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Everett; a son, William L. Kearney in 1998, and a grandson in 1965.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday at the Garden Chapel at Topeka Cemetery. Margaret will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. that evening.
