Margaret L. Bowman, 76, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born on October 28, 1931 in McLean, TX, the daughter of J.W. and Carrie S. Moore Henry. She graduated from Topeka High School and obtained an Associate Degree from Washburn University. Margaret was a Child Development Coordinator for the State of Kansas for 39 years before retiring in 1988. She was past president of the Midwestern States Association Daughters of Elks for 13 years, a member of Sunflower Past Grand, Daughter Rulers Circle, a member of the Laura Thurston Temple No. 1094, the Golden Sheath Council, Myra Chapter No. 5, O.E.S., and the Oasis Court No. 44 Daughters of Isis. Margaret married A.E. Bowman on January 29, 1970 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1983. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, William J. Henry, Harlan Woods and one sister, Rose M. Burnette. Survivors include two sisters, Cecil M. Thompson and Clara S. White, both of Topeka, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 S.E. Washington St. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Mrs. Bowman will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
