Margarette Lois Piper, 88, of Carbondale, passed away Monday, February 5, 2024.

She was born December 1, 1935, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Roy Lee and Lois Elizabeth (Martindale) Shepard. Margarette married Russell Piper, October 16, 1954.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Randall Dean Piper.

She is survived by one son, Daniel Wade Piper of Scranton, KS; one daughter, Elizabeth Needham & husband Chris of Wakarusa, KS; grandchildren, Ross & Elizabeth Piper of Topeka, KS, Adam & Holly Piper of Carbondale, KS, Madison Needham of Wakarusa , KS, and Katie & Josie Piper of Scranton, KS; and three great grandsons, Dylan & Waylon Piper and Grady Piper.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Charles, Leroy, and George Shepard; four sisters, Katherine Fike, Lola Tryon, Lilly Massick, and Mary Snell.

Margarette was a member of God's Church.

She was a Procurement Officer for the Department of Health and Environment, State of Kansas and retired in 1996. She loved family gatherings, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her favorite pastime was reading and when her eyesight became a problem, she listened to many books on CDs and tapes. In her younger days she was a Den Mother, Softball Coach and was a Coordinator for Meals On Wheels.

Margarette was cremated. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday February 10, 2024 at Carbondale Cemetery in Carbondale, KS.
