Marguerite C. "Peggy" VanDyke Brown, 84, Topeka, formerly of Biloxi, MS, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2010 at a local hospital.
Peggy was born December 15, 1925 in Lake Worth, FL, the daughter of Q.B and Christine (Woodward) Dowdy. She was raised in Decatur, AL. and graduated from Decatur High School in 1942.
She worked as a bookkeeper for the U.S. Air Force for 47 years, both at Forbes A.F. B., and Keesler A.F. B. in Biloxi, MS. She was an avid reader and member of Terra Heights Baptist Church.
Peggy married Warren C. VanDyke on October 8, 1943 in Decatur, AL. He died January 15, 1973. She later married James D. Brown on November 2, 1984 in Biloxi, MS. He died April 22, 2006. Survivors include sons, Joseph Scott VanDyke, Michael Craig (Donna) VanDyke, all of Topeka; six grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Bruce Edward VanDyke.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
