Marguerite Irene Flohrschutz, 93, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka after a long and wonderful life.
She was born June 14, 1919 in Colorado, the daughter of Roy L. and Emma F. (Carlin) Birt. Marguerite graduated from Topeka High School in 1937. Early in her life she attended Strickler's Business College and worked in the Kansas Inspection Bureau in Topeka. She was married to Marvin Bates Flohrschutz on July 19, 1942 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1997 after 54 years of marriage. She lived most of her life in the Topeka area except when they lived in various locations when Marvin served in the US Army during WWII. When her children were grown, she worked in food service at Shawnee Heights Elementary School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, tending her flowers and taking walks and loved spending time with her family. She and Marvin enjoyed many years vacationing at their place at the Lake of the Ozarks. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Topeka and was active for many years in her Sunday school class, women's circle and the quilting group. She lived the last 16 years at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. She was always known for her kind and sweet nature.
She is survived by three children, Barry and wife Sandy Flohrschutz of Holton, Robert Flohrschutz of Topeka and Sue and husband Terrie Harsh of Cassoday, KS; grandchildren William and wife Liz Flohrschutz of Kansas City, KS, Bryn & husband Joel Peterson of Minneapolis, MN, Robyn and husband Dave Farney of Nampa, ID, Candice & husband Derek Reyna of Tulsa, OK and Hope Harsh of Cassoday; great-grandchildren Seth Dougan & Brayden Goebel-Lyons, Lucy Peterson, Lyla Farney, Preston, Lyndon & Sophia Reyna & three nephews, Keith, Loren and Ken Albin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy & Harold Albin, sister-in-law, Lorene Flohrschutz and her parents and her in-laws, August and Ada Flohrschutz.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 29 at Grace United Methodist Church in Topeka. Graveside committal services will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Hoyt Cemetery, Hoyt, KS. Marguerite will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel in Topeka, KS.
