Maria T. "Terry" Harris, 88 of Topeka, passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 9, 2022.

She was born April 8, 1934, in Wurzberg, Germany, the daughter of Norbert and Maria (Kodel) Schaller.

Maria loved being an officer's wife and making meals for others. She loved entertaining and interacting with other military wives while her husband was serving in the United States Army. She was also very proud of her work as an American Red Cross Volunteer. Maria was a true German who received her American Citizenship. She loved this Country and was very proud to be an American.

Over the years, Maria enjoyed the company of her domestic pets and had a caring heart for the wildlife which could be seen around her home.

Maria married Lt. Colonial Jack Lynn Harris, United States Army, (Ret.) on August 19, 1956 in Wurzburg Chapel in Germany. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2014. Survivors include her two beloved feline companions, Morris and Simon, her sisters, Elisabeth "Susi" Bungard, Topeka, Kansas and Helga Herschbach, Stuttgart, Germany and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lori Gunn, and her brother, Emil Schaller.

Mrs. Harris will lie in state from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan, KS.

Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 5500 East Kellogg, Room 112, Wichita, KS 67218.
