Marietta Armstrong, 88, formerly of Topeka, KS, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Neuvant House of Lawrence, KS.
She was born February 20, 1929 in Paola, KS, the daughter of David W. Dillon and Martha (Clark) Dillon.
She grew up on the family farm near Springhill, KS. She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1947. Following graduation, she worked for a gas service company. She finished her career with the Kansas Office of Revisor of Statutes.
She was a member of First Congregational Church. Bill and Marietta loved spending winters in Arizona and entertaining and making memories at their lake home in Topeka.
She married William J. "Bill" Armstrong on Sept. 16, 1951, in Prairie Village. Bill preceded her in death on January 6, 2008.
She is survived by a daughter, Alea (Mark) Lafond, of Lawrence; a son, Kent (Linda) Armstrong, of Olathe; Grandchildren, Allison (Eric) Carson, Cara (Casey) Thomas, Ashley (Shawn Brackbill) Lafond, David (Mirjana) Armstrong, Nicole (Bob) Johnson; Great-Grandchildren, Rylie, Mason, Parker, Porter, Hazel, Stella and Jude; a brother, Tony (Nandes) Dillon; and a life long friend and nephew, Larry Witt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William J. Armstrong; brother, Floyd "Buck" Dillon; sisters, Delores Witt and Betty Billings.
A celebration of Marietta's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum.
