Marilyn Christine Freeze

May 12, 1936 — September 14, 2018

Marilyn Christine (Hoff) Freeze, 82, of Topeka, passed away Friday, September 14, 2018.

She was born May 12, 1936, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Ernest Eugene and Gladys Christina (Olson) Hoff. She attended St. Olaf College, Pacific Lutheran College, and received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where she was a member of the Nordic Choir.

Marilyn was a realtor for Kirk and Cobb and operated various antique booths in Topeka, Kansas City, and Abilene.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Topeka, KS.

Marilyn married Joel Osler Brende. They divorced. She married John Lawrence Freeze on August 1, 1997. He survives. Other survivors include one brother, Paul Hoff of Minneapolis, MN, five children, Kareen King (Jeff) of Osage City, KS, Eric Brende (Mary) of St. Louis, MO, Terri Martin (Bob) of Plano, TX, Alicia Mock (Cary) of Overland Park, KS, and Mark Brende (Jennifer) of Erie, CO; two step-children, Laura Ho (Jeff) of Alameda, CA and Andrea Taylor (Jamie) of Daytona Beach, FL; nineteen grandchildren, Josiah King, Jonathan King, Joanna King, Rachel Rudeen, Kathryn King, Hans Brende, Evan Brende, Anna Brende, Alex Martin, Nicholas Martin, Michael Martin, Annelise Mock, Phoebe Mock, Curran Mock, Delainey Mock, Samuel Brende, Benjamin Brende, Abigail Brende, and Ethan Brende; and one great-grandchild, Bostyn Mae King.

Marilyn enjoyed classical and jazz music, theology, playing piano, gourmet cooking, flowers, playing bridge, interior decorating, watching dramatic movies, and collecting and selling antiques. She particularly loved meaningful conversation and experienced the most joy being with her family. She was a master of the superlative, prefacing her euphoric moments with, "That was the most beautiful, the most amazing, etc." Embracing and sharing beauty was her incomparable gift that enriched her life and countless others. Her unspoken calling was to give us all "beauty for ashes." In short, she was beautiful.

Honoring her request, Marilyn was cremated. A memorial service will be 5:00 p.m., Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Topeka. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Dove Cremations & Funerals, Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
