Marilyn J. Hawley, 85, of Topeka, KS, died on January 28, 2018 at Brookdale.
She was born June 1, 1932 in Topeka, Kansas to Floyd A. McQueen and Florence (Copeland) McQueen. She graduated from Topeka High School and Washburn University of Topeka with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and was listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
After graduation from Washburn, she was employed as a Social Worker with the Shawnee County Welfare Department until she changed her career to become a full time mother and homemaker. She was a long time Treasurer of the Delta Gamma Educational Foundation, a member of the Washburn University Alumni Association and a member of the Topeka First United Methodist Church.
She married Darvin C. Hawley on August 1, 1959 in Topeka, Kansas. He survives.
Other survivors include two sons; John M. Hawley, and his wife, Barbara, West Des Moines, Iowa, and Adam M. Hawley, and his wife, Suzan, Menlo Park, California, a daughter, Ann Hawley Steffey and her husband, Monte, Omaha, Nebraska, five grandsons; Daniel and Nathan Hawley, Skyler and Brendan Steffey, Bruno Hawley Szollar, one granddaughter, Paloma Hawley Szollar, and two nieces and three nephews.
A remembrance gathering will be from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Topeka First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66603.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Topeka First United Methodist Church, Washburn Endowment Association, 1729 SW MacVicar Ave, Topeka, KS 66604 or the Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS 66608.
