Marion "Mick" L. Cox, 86, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away November 24, 2017 at Midland Care. He was born March 22, 1931 at Picher, Oklahoma to Marion Guy and Gladys Mae (Robbins) Cox. On November 8, 1952, he married Donna Schommer at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Waterloo, Iowa. Mick served in the United States Air Force from 1950 through 1953.
Mick's lifetime occupation was in law enforcement, serving nearly 30 years on the Kansas Highway Patrol and 8 years as Sheriff of Waubansee County, Kansas. He served as the President of Kansas Association of Counties, President of Kansas Sheriff's Association (1989), was on the National Board of Sheriffs, was a member of the American Legion for over 60 years, and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Mick is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Donna; his sons: Daniel (Laura) of Naples, FL, Rick of Joplin, MO, and Jeff (Jeanne) of Cummings, GA; his daughters: Kim Mills (Ricky) of Topeka, KS and Mary Meek (David) of Plant City, FL; his daughter-in-law, Terry Cox, Joplin, MO ; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-children; and his sister, MaryLou Evans (Ken) of Fayetteville, AR. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael on October 15, 2015 and both of his parents.
He loved to fish, hunt, and spend time with his family and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church at 11:00AM on Thursday, December 7, 2017. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.
