Marjorie E. Iwig, 83, passed away, Sunday, February 12, 2006, at Midland Hospice Care in Topeka. She was born on December 30, 1922, the daughter of Arthur and Ruth Stover Dister.
Living in the Topeka area her entire life, she grew up on a farm located on the fertile bottoms of North Topeka. She graduated from Seaman High School in 1940. Marjorie went on to receive her nursing degree from Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing in 1944, after which she married Daniel E. Iwig on June 30, 1944. He preceded her in death in 2002. Although she was a registered nurse, Marjorie chose to assist her husband who was a dairy farmer.
Marjorie enjoyed gardening and maintained a large garden which produced abundantly, providing extra which she was happy to give to others. The church was always important to the family, and Marjorie was a charter member of the Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church in Tecumseh and served in many different areas. She is survived by two sons; Mark (Gaye) Iwig, Johnston, IA, and David (Pen) Iwig, Berryton, three grandchildren; Nicholas (Becki) Iwig, Marcus (Jamie) Iwig, and Missy Iwig, two great-grandsons; Noah and Cody Iwig, and a brother, Daniel (Sharon) Dister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, a brother, Robert Dister, and two sisters; Ann Ostrander, and Martha Dahlstrom.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church in Tecumseh, with burial to follow in Bethel Cemetery, Tecumseh. Mrs. Iwig will lie in state after 12:00 noon Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. that evening .
