Marshall Mohler

Marshall "Dewey" Mohler, 96, of Berryton, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023. He was born May 26, 1926 in Topeka, the son of Clay L. and Ruth (Murphy) Mohler.

Dewey graduated from Highland Park High School in 1944. He served in the US Navy during WWII serving aboard the USS LST636 making 5 combat landings. At the end of the war, they repatriated the Chinese, Japanese and Koreans from foreign countries to their homeland. After his discharge, he attended Washburn University and Kansas State University.

Dewey was employed as a Purchasing Traffic Coordinator for the Santa Fe Railway for 43 years before retiring on December 1, 1986. He had resided in Tecumseh since 1938 before moving to Berryton 4 years ago. He was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, the Tecumseh Kiwanis Club, the Swinging Squares, the Santa Fe Singers, the BNSF Retirees Club and Orient Lodge No. 51 AF&AM for over 50 years.

Dewey married Helen L. Kreipe on February 8, 1947 in Tecumseh at the Tecumseh United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on October 21, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his two grandsons, Byron Hurney, Derek Hurney and his grandson-in-law, Shane Hooper.

Survivors include their children, David (Sherryl) Mohler of Tecumseh, Diana (Gregg) Halstead of Berryton and Deborah Barr of Tecumseh, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Dewey's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Tecumseh United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, 334 SE Tecumseh Rd., Tecumseh, Kansas 66542 for the window campaign.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
