Martha Sue (Beatty) Lutz

July 24, 1958 — March 19, 2023

Martha was an amazing person who touched many lives in many ways. She was many things to many people. She was a daughter, sister, friend, wife, aunt, mother and grandmother.

Martha learned to be a mother from her own mom, who she lost too soon. Her mother shared two things to live by: "Treat others as you want to be treated" and "Stand up Tall."

Her dad, who called her Sonhoney, was her role model for living life as well as passing on his dry sense of humor to her. Martha could bring people to tears with her stories.

Martha wore many hats during her career, some as simple as binding books and finding lifelong friends, to the one of which she was most proud, becoming a Lieutenant with the Sheriff's Office. With the help of her mentors, Martha challenged the status quo in law enforcement for 32 years rising through the ranks. Against all odds, in a male dominated field, she became the highest ranking female in the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office. She mentored both men and women who to this day remember her guidance, kindness, and strength.

A 38 year marriage to Marc started with a single yellow rose. Out of this loving union, the adventure began. Despite her numerous professional achievements, family always came first. Her daughters, Ashley and Megan are her greatest joy. She was so proud of both of them. They are strong, fierce, gentle and kind just like their mother. While she loved spending time with her girls, when her grandchildren came along, a whole new light came to her life. Eliza (5) and Jack (2) were the sunshine of her life. She loved watching them grow, laugh and play.

Martha's two sisters, Duanann and Jenny were the two older kids that the two younger kids thought – when can we stay up as late as them and drink soda pops. The adventure started from a family vacation. The most irritating love of her life was her brother, Mack. There couldn't be two siblings more devoted to each other or more different. From spotting birds for Mack to shoot or getting him out of trouble, the two were the best of friends. In the words of Martha, "He was a pain in my ass, but he is the world to me."

She left this world too soon but the impact that she made was great and everlasting. Anyone who knew or met her understood they met someone special. She will be missed and remembered every day.

Honoring Martha's request, cremation is planned. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel.
