Martha Mae Anderson, 93, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Midland Hospice House. She was born September 1, 1921 in Fairview, MO, the daughter of Marion C. and Florence O. Dunn Wills.
Martha grew up and resided in Kansas City, MO prior to moving to Topeka in 1954. She was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church. She served on the YWCA Board for many years. Martha enjoyed flowers and gardening and achieved many awards for her flower arranging and beautiful yard. Martha was lovingly known as the "Flower Lady on the corner". She was a charter member of the Queen of Spades Garden Club where she was a member for 40 years. She also enjoyed oil painting and was a charter member of the Artists Association.
Martha married Carl W. Anderson on October 15, 1939 in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death on March 30, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Kam Wagner and brother, Wayne Wills. Survivors include one daughter, Carlene (Frank) Mischlich and one son, Glenn R. Anderson, both of Lenexa, KS, one granddaughter, Wendy Zappa, five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, KS 66604.
