Martha "Alice" Soper, 94, of Topeka, passed away Monday, October 22, 2018.
She was born January 8, 1924, in Hewlett, Long Island, New York, the daughter of Charles H. and Martha A. (O'Conner) Schilling. She was a graduate of Woodmere High School, Long Island, NY.
Alice was a long-time volunteer of ICT of Topeka at Washburn University where she has served as President, Board Member and Chairperson for Bazaar and International Café. She also volunteered for The Topeka Red Cross and Docent for the Friends of the Topeka Zoo. She served as Supervising Judge for the Election Commission. She was an active member of St. David's Episcopal Church, Topeka. She was also an associate member of the Blue Key Business Fraternity at Washburn University.
Alice married Gerard T. Soper on August 4, 1944 in Mitchel Field, Long Island, NY. He preceded her in death on February 19, 2009. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Alice (Edwin) Dillinger, Westmoreland, KS; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mildred M. Schilling; and her brother, Charles A. Schilling.
Martha enjoyed volunteering, playing tennis, gardening and cooking.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at St. David's Episcopal Church, 3916 SW 17th Street, Topeka, KS 66604. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday at Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka.
