Marty Garren, 67, of Topeka, passed away November 29, 2017.
Marty was born on January 20, 1950 in Topeka to LaVerne and Verrell (Weinberg) Garren.
He graduated from Seaman High School in 1968.
The summer after graduation Marty joined the United States Marines; serving from August 1969 to May 1971 as a Corporal. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Marksman Rifle and Expert Pistol Badges.
Marty married Julie Ann on November 20, 1987.
He retired in April 2009 after 38 years of employment as a laborer from Goodyear Tire & Rubber.
Marty was a member of the NRA and Sunflower Striders Running Club. He loved the outdoors and designing and creating woodworking projects for the home and outdoors. He also enjoyed traveling, his grandchildren, running marathons and relays, and marksmanship.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Julie, four siblings; Monte (Rhonda) Garren, Cheryl (Rex) Forbes, Rick (Cathy) Garren, Tanya (Steve) Newell; and six grandchildren; Marin, Makena, Hayden, Parker, Kylee and Trevor.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Heidi Garren Everley.
Private services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or American Legion Post 421, PO Box 750684, Topeka, KS 66675.
