Marvin Guy Sevy, 75, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011. He was born June 28, 1935 in Jackson County, MO, the son of Guy and Anna (Miller) Sevy.
Marvin was raised in rural Jackson County, MO. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1952. Marvin went on to earn an Associates of Arts degree from Graceland College in 1955, and a Bachelors degree in Education from the University of Missouri in 1957.
In May 1961, he married Patricia Timms. Shortly thereafter, Marvin began working for Western Weighing and Inspection Bureau which was an integral component of the railroad infrastructure of the United States. He worked for them for over 35 years and was an active member of the Transportation Communications International Union (TCU). He moved to Topeka in 1967.
Marvin was ordained as a priest with the Community of Christ in 1954. He served
in that capacity throughout his life, as well as participating in the choir, and performing solo hymns that often brought tears to parishioners' eyes.
He had a wide array of interests including music, politics, geology, astronomy, photography, scholarly research, writing, and genealogy. He was a member of the Friends of the Topeka Library, and had a personal collection of books and publications in excess of 4,000 titles. He was also a proud member of the University of Missouri Alumni Association, and a Tiger through and through.

Marvin is survived by his spouse, Patricia (Topeka); children, Paul (Gladstone), Laura Kothe (Topeka), and Brian (Kansas City); brothers, Gordon (Independence) and Russell (Pleasant Hills); 4 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
A family observation occurred shortly after death, with no formal services or
