Mary Ann Adkins, 82, of Carbondale, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022.
She was born July 18, 1939, in McDonald County, Missouri, the daughter of Walter Franklin Mayfield and Ollie Lavern (Williams) Mayfield. She graduated from Topeka High School.
Mary was the dietary manager at Colmery O'Neil VA Hospital in Topeka for 16 years, retiring in 2004.
She was a member of Eastern Star, Fidelity Chapter in Carbondale and the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary formerly Post #2709.
She married Jack Counts, they later divorced. On June 18, 1968, she married Virgil Dean Adkins in Bernice, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two grandchildren, Dena Longstaff Nottestead and Jesse Boyer.
Survivors include her children, Charleen (Dale) Tyson, Frances (Carl) Deters, Jack Mayfield, Connie (Steve) Bickford, Barbara Murray, Marlene Jordan (Dick), and Susie Longstaff; 15 grandchildren, Travis Brown, Dillon Brown, Jimmy Frye, RJ Frye, Brad Boyer, Amanda Headlee, Andrea Mayfield, Jeremy Mayfield, Diana Neal, Elizabeth Eich, John Miller, Schmicka Murray, Tracy Lewis, Dena and Jacob; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and five sisters.
Mary enjoyed sewing, crafting, and crocheting. She also enjoyed gardening and canning, as well as camping and fishing. Her most enjoyable time was spent with her family, always attending every gathering and event.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Dove Cremations & Funerals Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Berryton. Mary's family will receive friends from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm Monday, January 31, 2022 at the funeral home.
