Mary Alice Munoz, 82, of Topeka, passed away October 12, 2013. She was born October 13, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Julian and Mary (Refugia) Yniguez.
Mary Alice was a 1948 graduate of Fenger High School in Chicago, Illinois. In 1995, she retired from Property Valuation for the State of Kansas and worked 26 years in the export field in Chicago, before moving to Topeka. She worked at Borg-Warner many years as an export documentation specialist and Spanish translator. Mary Alice was instrumental in the implementation of the Export Division, being manager/supervisor of the Federal Signal International, Blue Island, Illinois. She was a member of Mater Dei Assumption Parish in Topeka. Mary Alice enjoyed going to garage and estate sales and holding her own garage sales. She also enjoyed collecting Hallmark ornaments and antique collectibles.
On May 13, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, she married Benjamin Munoz. He survives. Other survivors include daughters, Stephanie Shirey and Roseann Flagg, both of Topeka, and Andrea Gomez of Liberty, Missouri; sisters, Celia Yniguez of Tinley Park, Illinois and Carmella Duda, of Manteno, Illinois; brothers, Richard Yniguez of Chicago, Illinois and Edward Yniguez of Evergreen Park, Illinois; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Ernest Yniguez; and sisters, Patricia and Julia Yniguez.
A memorial mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Mater Dei Assumption Parish, 8th & Jackson, Topeka. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church where the family will meet with relatives and friends immediately following.
