Mary Ann Lowry, 83, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015. Born in Topeka, KS, Easter Sunday, March 27, 1932 to Gaylord and Lucile Hogle. She grew up in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School, where she met her husband of 60 years, Wayne Lowry. Early employment included Montgomery Wards and bookkeeping for Kansas Contractor Supply. Served for many years as Shawnee County Deputy Treasurer and worked for the Assessor's Office in Sedgwick County. She enjoyed her work as a licensed real estate agent the most. Mary Ann always worked fulltime while raising her children.
Always a passionate volunteer serving her church and community wherever she lived. Over the last two decades she enjoyed volunteering in Wichita at First Presbyterian Church, especially at Economy Corner and with the dissolved Wrangler Baseball Organization. Married to an avid sports fan Mary Ann became one too. Wayne and Mary Ann enjoyed being season ticket holders to KSU football, indoor soccer, and minor league baseball. She supported her children and grandchildren in their involvement with a variety of activities through the years.
Mary Ann enjoyed creating crafts to give to her family and friends; everyone cherished her thoughtful gifts. It was always a treat to visit her home, because she made you feel welcome with great food and special attention. Mary Ann was a true friend and wonderful listener. She was always positive and could make anyone smile. She gave shelter and care to many pets over the years. She addressed adversity with strength and a quiet calm resolve. Mary Ann contributed great love to the world and in return was greatly loved.
Survived by son, Matt Lowry, Topeka; daughter, Tamara (Bill) Reynolds, Lynchburg, VA; sister, Sandra Kibbee, Topeka; half-sisters, Gayle Coover, AZ, and Billie Blair, Lecompton; half-brother, Gaylord Hogle Jr., Topeka; grandchildren, T.J. Cooper (Shellie), MariAnn Lowry (Frankie), Alison (Kevin) Reynolds and Ryan Reynolds; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Ashton, and Trason Cooper, Trenton Lowry, and Emilya Cruz.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 11, at Mt. Hope Chapel, 4700 17th Street, Topeka. Burial will follow. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel on Thursday, September 10.
A memorial service will be held in Wichita at a later date.
