Mary Ann Wade, 76, of Topeka, KS, passed away May 7, 2014. She was born July 9, 1937 at Blencoe, Iowa to Walter and Louise "Doogan"(Seuell) Schmollinger.
Mary Ann graduated high school at Platte City, Missouri in 1955 and married Daniel P. Wade on May 19 of that year. He made a career of the US Air Force and they resided in many places before his retirement while stationed at North Dakota. They co-owned A-1 Lock & Key in Topeka for 20 years, retiring in 1999.
Mary Ann loved crafting of all sorts and always had at least two projects going. She enjoyed traveling and RV'ing especially during mushroom season. She touched many lives as a surrogate grandma to athletes she met through Washburn Athletics and her grandchildren's sporting events. She loved baking and was always trying new recipes to share with others.
Mary Ann is survived by Daniel, her loving husband of nearly 59 years; three daughters, Denise Humphrey (Scott), of Topeka, Debra Bowman of Washington KS and Dana Bodnar (Ted) of Atlanta, GA; one son Darren Wade (Augustine Cruz) of Topeka; six grandchildren, Damon Bowman, Blake, Drew and Austin Wade, and Erin and Tyler Humphrey, and her brother, Gary Schmollinger of Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service celebrating Mary Ann's life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1275 SW Boswell, Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held Friday evening, May 16 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.at the church. The family would like to encourage you to wear red, which was Mary Ann's favorite color, or Washburn blue.
