Mary Anne (Kidney) Whalen, 86, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014 at her home.
She was born July 28, 1928, in Holton, KS, the daughter of Emmett and Anna (Thompson) Kidney.
Mrs. Whalen worked for Gill's Concessions for many years and later for the Kansas Department of Human Resources.
Mary was married to Leonard Whittington for 25 years. They had eight children. They were divorced. She married Robert Whalen. They were divorced. Survivors include seven daughters, Sharon (Raymond) Burrell, Greer, SC, Linda (Randy) Ridgway, Betty (Danny) Carlson, Wanda (Stephen) Thompson, Donna (Gerry) Reed, Karen Hawks and Anna (Rocky) Brown; and a son, Lonnie Whittington, all of Topeka; 19 grandchildren, Deana, David, Tammy, Michelle, Debbie, Kevin, Jeff, Stephanie, Connie, Shawn, Michael, Melissa, Addison, Gary, Ryan, Teddy, Tina, Phillip and Joseph; 39 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Forrest (Sue) Kidney, Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Randy, Jr; a great-granddaughter, Angel; and three brothers, Milton, Emmett, Jr. and Joe Kidney.
A funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Private interment will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
