Mary L. Barnett, 80, Topeka, quietly passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at a local care center.
Mary was born November 29, 1927 in Saline County, MO, the daughter of Grover C. and Emma Zue (Rennison) Renno. She attended Smith-Cotton High School and Sedalia Business College. Later in life, she returned to school and earned a Baccalaureate degree in Psychology, with honors, from Washburn University and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and Psi Chi Honor Society for Psychology in 1978.
She worked as an Assistant Controller for First State Savings & Loan, an Accounting Supervisor for New Empire Life Insurance and as Office Manager for Klassic Manufacturing all in Sedalia, MO. For much of her life, she owned and managed properties in and around the Sedalia area.
She served on the Shawnee County Advocacy Council for the Aging, and was a member the D.A.R., Order of the Eastern Star, the American Association of University Women, a Charter member of the Woman's Club of Sedalia, MO, and later President of the Woman's Club of Topeka. She was also a member of Beta Tau chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and First Baptist Church of Topeka.
She married Eugene E. Boone on August 24, 1946 in Miami, OK. She later married Charles O. Barnett on November 11, 1961 in Sedalia, MO. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2008. Survivors include a daughter, Priscilla Daniels, Topeka; son, Dr. Robert Barnett, Topeka; grandchildren, Brandon, Aislynn and Elise Barnett, Shawn Cowing, Karen Oliver; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters, Virginia Carter, Edith Taylor; and brother, Grover Renno.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia, MO. Mary will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
