Mary E. Barber, 90, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014 at a Topeka care facility. She was born August 10, 1923 in Topeka, the daughter of Raymond and Opal Gifford Meyers. She attended Topeka High School.
Mary was a homemaker and owned and operated Toledo Scales with her husband. She was an active member of the Aerie #58 FOE Auxiliary and the Oakland Rebekah Lodge No. 616.
Mary married Gordon Barber on September 30, 1940 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1989. She was also preceded in death by one son, Wayne Barber and two granddaughters, Kim Barber and Candy Barber. Survivors include four children, Raymond E. (Anne) Barber of Wichita, KS, Donald E. (Marlene) Barber of Baldwin, KS, Gary (Sandy) Barber of Edwardsville, KS, Beverly Sue Badgley of California, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and her siblings, Raymond Dale Meyers of Louisiana, Kenneth Eugene Meyers of American Samoa and Evelyn of Salina, KS.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Mary will lie in state from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
