Mary Fillman, 84, of Topeka, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012 in Salina.
She was born Mary Elizabeth Shrimplin on December, 24th, 1927 in Burlington, Kansas.
She was a Master gardener, devoted animal lover, and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a graduate of Westphalia High School (1947) and the first graduating class of Stormont-Vail School of Nursing, 1950. She became a surgical nurse at the Atchison-Topeka & Santa Fe Hospital where she met her husband, Dr. Eldon M. Fillman. They were married January 29, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John William Shrimplin and Marie (Hegwald) Shrimplin of Westphalia, Kansas, brothers, Ray and Carl Shrimplin, and husband, Dr. Eldon M. Fillman.
Mary is survived by her son, Greg (Beth)Fillman of Renton, Washington, and daughters, Susie (Dr. Steve) Dillon of Lawrence, Kansas and Linda (Bob) Miller of Salina, Kansas. Mary also has 7 grandchildren.
She enjoyed being a member of the West Hills Garden Club for over 30 years.
A funeral ceremony will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka. Private family interment will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
