Mary Elizabeth Hendrix, 84, of Topeka, died Sunday, April 18, 2004 at her residence. She was born on September 22, 1919 in Topeka, the daughter of Neal F. and Clara M. Eggleston Hammond. She was employed by Capper Publications from 1938-1944 including the publications of Cappers Weekly, Kansas Farmer and Missouri Ruralist Publications. She returned to work for Stauffer Communications Inc. in May of 1968 before retiring in June of 1982. She was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, National Riflemans Association and a life member of the Kansas State Rifle Association. She served two terms as President of the Womens Auxiliary Local No. 304 and served as Vice President of the Topeka Council of PTA in 1955. She married Robert Lee Hendrix on June 4, 1941 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1998.; Survivors include one son; Robert Lynn Hendrix of Waukesha, Wisconsin, one grandson; Jonathan Hendrix of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one sister; Rosalie Wilson of Topeka and one brother; Victor N. Hammond of Gulfport, Mississippi. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. Burial will follow. As per Mrs. Hendrix's wishes, she will not lie in state. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 S.E.
