Mary J. Fitzgerald, 95, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
She was born July 31, 1927, in Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of Carl and Ruby (Lamme) Juelke. She was a graduate of Effingham Royal High School, Effingham, Kansas.
Mary was employed by Forbes Air Base and later for Whelan's Lumber Company in Topeka, retiring in 1966 and afterwards became a stay-at-home mom.
She was a member of the local Topeka chapter of the Moose Club.
Mary married Calvin E. Fitzgerald on February 16, 1950 in Ft. Scott, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2010. Survivors include her son, Daniel C. and wife Mary "Crissy" Fitzgerald; and 4 grandchildren; Caitlin Dormish, Connor McBride, Tanner Fitzgerald, and Jacob Fitzgerald.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Calvin E. Fitzgerald.
Mary enjoyed photography, reading history and travel. She was an avid history lover, and many of the trips surrounded visiting Western military posts and landmarks. She always had a camera in her hand, and took pictures and images from all over the United States.
Honoring her request, cremation is planned. A Memorial Ceremony/ Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka and Shawnee Co. Public Library, 1515 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66604-1374.
