Mary Frances Hood

Mary Frances (Masters) Hood, 78, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Scranton, KS, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 16, 2013. She was born on June 28th, 1935 in Lyndon, KS to John Paul Manning and Laura Edith Kilgore. She grew up and attended school in the Lyndon community. She was married to Leslie Allen Hood on June 23, 1979 and remained married for 34 years. During Mary's life in Topeka, she worked as a cashier and held various housekeeping positions and upon moving to Scranton in 1978 she became a librarian for a short time at the Scranton Elementary school. She also loved selling Avon as a way to meet people in the community. Mary was a member of the Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene and the Oakland Church of the Nazarene. During her years in Scranton, Mary and Les attended the Scranton Covenant Church and the Carbondale Church of the Christian Fellowship. Mary enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening in her yard, fishing, and loved bargain hunting.

Mary is survived by her husband, Les; her sons Daniel Thomas Masters, Jr. (Nancy), John Paul Masters; daughters Nancy Jane McGoyne (William), Deborah Kay Cannon (Larry), Virginia Lea Degan (Walter), Mary Ann Thompson (Don); stepson Arthur Scarborough Hood (Dixie); two brothers Paul and John; three sisters Ina, Alice and Martha; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by Daniel Thomas Masters Sr. (husband of 26 years and father of seven children), Patricia Carol Blanchett (daughter), Richard Anthony Blanchett (son-in-law), Edward Thomas Ditto (son-in-law), and Richard Anthony Blanchett, II (grandson); her parents and two brothers, Ernest and Lloyd, and sister Betty.

Services will be held Friday, December 20th, 2013 at 2pm in Carbondale, KS, at the Carbondale Church of the Christian Fellowship. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
