Mary Lee (Davis) Johnson, 79, Topeka, formerly of Shorewood, IL, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2013. Mary Lee was born December 18, 1933 in Winfield, KS, the daughter of LaVere and Hazel (Beck) Davis. She graduated from Augusta High School in 1952 and received a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Washington in 1967.
Mary Lee married Earl Johnson in Ames, IA. His career as a chemical engineer for the US Coast Guard and Mobil Oil took the family to Seattle, St. Louis, Augusta, KS, Westport, CT, and Joliet, IL.
Raising three boys, Mary Lee was an avid sports fan and the ultimate Sports Mom. She enthusiastically supported her sons' multi-sports endeavors from Little League through high school, college, and the professional ranks.
The Davis Family own and operate Cascade Cottages inside Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park. Mary Lee and her family spent summers helping with the cabins. She loved hiking in the mountains and climbed to the summit of Long's Peak ten times.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Johnson, Topeka; sons, Dr. Greg (Kathy) Johnson, Topeka, Brent (Jane) Johnson, Tallahassee, FL, Barry (Heidi) Johnson, Houston, TX; grandchildren, Dr. Eric (Jessica) Johnson, Blair (Jeslyn) Johnson, Alexis Newell, Kara (Mark) Mathias; great-granddaughters, Brynlee and Sophia; and sisters, Grace Sipe and Fran Berner.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Mulvane Unit at Aldersgate Village for the care she received during the past three years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Countryside United Methodist Church. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
