Mary Lou Matthews

Mary Lou Matthews, 73, Topeka, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 at Aldersgate Village. She was born March 25, 1935 near Frankfort in Marshall County, the daughter of Ralph and Sadie Gosper Stevens. She graduated from Frankfort High School, but spent most of her life in Topeka. Mary Lou was an active member of Little People of America, Inc. for many years. She was also a member of Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church. She worked as a secretary for 37 years at Topeka State Hospital. She married Sanford "Shorty" Matthews on Sept. 2, 1972. He died Dec. 19, 1991. Survivors include her sister, Janet Olson of Topeka. Private burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trent Plaza at Aldersgate Village. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Aldersgate Village, 7220 SW Asbury Drive 66614. Dove Funeral Home is assisting the family.
