Mary Mae Moffet, age 88, passed away February 18, 2010 at Midland Hospice House.
Mary Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick A. Moffet and their son Derrell F. Moffet, her parents, Watt and Francelia (Jernigan) Kitchen, and her brothers, Ellis Lynn and Oliver Kitchen. She is survived by her husband, Delbert C. Tibbets of the home, sisters, Naomi Gibeson, Topeka, Audrey Irick, Mission, KS, sister-in-law, Shirley Kitchen, Topeka, and daughter-in-law, Joyce Hubler Moffet, Auburn, KS.
Mary Mae graduated from Lyndon High School, Washburn University and obtained a Master's Degree from Emporia State Teacher's College. She taught elementary school 40 years in Shawnee County and Topeka USD 501. Later she enjoyed an affiliation with Highland Park Bank as their travel agent for seniors. She was a member of the Beulah Chapter of Eastern Star and many teacher organizations.
Mary Mae will lie in state after Noon Monday February 22, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota, Topeka, KS 66605. Services for Mary Mae will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 29th and Michigan, Topeka, KS followed by interment in the Wakarusa Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the sevice at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Midland Hospice Care Inc., 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 S.E. Michigan, Topeka, KS 66605-2648. She was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
